How to use your OpenVPN

Background:


What is a VPN?


VPN stands for “Virtual Private Network” and describe the opportunity to establish a protected network connection when using public/home network.


 

When NOT to use VPN?

Note: No need to connect/use VPN if your workstation is connected to your office/corporate/company network already.


How to login to your Open VPN?


Step 1: On your Desktop, locate this OpenVPN GUI 

Step 2: Right click > Run as administrator 

Pop up message appear to allow the app


Select “YES”


 

Step 3: Go to your taskbar (lower right) and search for OpenVPN running icon.

  • Locate the icon “monitor with padlock”

 

If you cannot found it could be hidden:

Step 4: Login to your OpenVPN


#1: username

#2: password

#3: If want to save your password check it and save you time to login every time you login 

If not check, you need to put your username and password every time you login


#4: Click “OK”

 

Three (3) methods to check if successfully connected to VPN?

1. The OpenVPN icon “monitor with padlock” will turn to GREEN color in your taskbar

 

 

2. If you hover your mouse cursor on top of the OpenVPN icon on your taskbar

Status shows: Connected to and Connected since


 

3.  From your taskbar, double click the OpenVPN running icon

 

 

It will show.

Current State: Connected


 

How to Disconnect/Reconnect to OpenVPN connection: 

1.  From your taskbar, double click the OpenVPN running icon

 


Simply click “Disconnect”




Simply click “Reconnect”
